In Luke 2:22-40, we witness the faithful obedience of Mary and Joseph, who bring baby Jesus to the temple for consecration, following the customs and laws of their faith.
There, they encounter Simeon, a devout man filled with the Holy Spirit, who had been waiting for the Messiah. Simeon’s heart leaps with joy as he recognizes the infant Jesus as the promised Savior. He blesses the child and prophesies about His significance.
We also meet Anna, a prophetess, who worships God with fasting and prayer night and day. She, too, recognizes Jesus as the redemption of Jerusalem. This passage exemplifies the obedience, faith, and hope of those who long for the Messiah’s arrival.
